Introduction to Brain Injury Guide

Nearly all of the survivors of a traumatic head injury and their families say there is nothing written that explains head injury in clear, easy to understand language.

Most say the available material is too medical or too difficult to read. The goal of the following pages in this Guide is to better prepare the head injured person and family for the long road ahead. It is written in a way that is easy enough for me to understand. If I can understand it, I have no doubt everyone else will be able to do so.

It is not in any way intended to replace understandings, and advice, provided to survivors and family by any medical and field professionals they have worked with or are working with. It is important to always follow such advice because it is specific to the survivor, whereas this is couched in much more general terms.

It is designed simply to provide an appreciation and an understanding where there may be none or there are difficulties doing so and to encourage all concerned to believe there is a way forward and that you are not on your own.
